Michael Svensson's three year battle with injury looks like ending in heartbreak.
The Swedish centre half has been beset by ongoing knee problems which has limited him to just seven first team games in almost three years.
Several operations and visits to various specialists have been unable to get him back to fitness.
And yesterday Saints boss George Burley confirmed that Svensson's latest visit to a specialist in Germany, which he described at the time as a last throw of the dice, has also not worked.
Svensson was given a one-year contract last summer in which to prove his fitness.
But, with just a few months left until it expires, the prospect of that is remote.
Burley said: "That's correct. He had treatment over in Germany which doesn't seem to have had the right effect as far as getting him training again.
"We'll see, we'll probably get more scans and see a specialist for his advice".
