MORE than ever, managers are being charged by the FA after comments made about certain decisions which have cost their team.
Lawrie McMenemy has some sympathy.
In today's exclusive Daily Echo column, he says: Take the case of Paul Jewell at Arsenal last week.
His team are rightly 1-0 up, have a man brought down in the penalty area by the last defender, and not only is a penalty not given but the defender stays on the pitch.
Eventually he has a hand in one of the Arsenal goals which ensures Wigan lose.
Paul Jewell would not be doing his job properly if he wasn't incensed by this.
Whether he should have confronted the referee on the pitch or not is debatable.
I definitely think he had every right to ask the pertinent questions, whether it be in the tunnel or the referee's room afterwards.
But even that is not allowed.
