BRISTOL Rovers hold the upper hand at the halfway mark of their Vanarama Conference play-off semi-final against Forest Green Rovers.

Darrell Clarke's league runners-up edged the away leg 1-0 at The New Lawn tonight thanks to an early Matty Taylor goal.

Rovers had Ellis Harrison sent off for a second yellow card on 77 minutes, but FGR couldn't force an equaliser. Ex-Saint Aarran Racine had a header cleared off the line before former Dorchester Town man Charlie Clough struck the woodwork.

Eastleigh host Grimsby Town in the other semi-final first leg at the Silverlake Stadium tomorrow (Thursday, 7.45pm).
