Winchester City have taken up the opportunity to play in the Southern League next season after a vacancy was left open in Division One South & West.

The league underwent a reshuffle recently and left a place open for the taking after Flackwell Heath rejected the opportunity to play in the division.

At today's Southern League AGM, City, who finished runners-up in the Sydenhams Premier Division last term, were placed in the South & West after taking up the option to fill the void left by the Buckinghamshire-based outfit.

A statement on Twitter from the club's official account said: "We can confirm that this morning (Saturday) we have been promoted to the Evostik Southern League Division 1 South and West.

"This is to fill the vacancy that exsisted through Flackwell Heath not taking up their place in the league."

They will now play in the same league as AFC Totton.
