Hampshire have been rocked by the news that new signing Reece Topley could face an injury lay-off without bowling a ball.
Left -armer Topley, who signed from Essex during the winter, has a suspected broken hand after being struck while batting by a Boyd Rankin delivery on his Hampshire debut.
Topley saw a specialist this morning after being hit early on in his innings, during which he scored a career-best first-class score of 15.
He was eventually clean bowled by Chris Woakes as the home side ended the first day on 189 for eight – with overseas star Ryan McLaren unbeaten on 84.
Rain looks set to wipe out the entire second day's play at The Ageas Bowl.
