Matt Le Tissier wants to put the "morality back into football" after becoming an agent.

The former Southampton and England midfielder has launched 73 Management with another former Saints player, Francis Benali, to represent players for the good of their careers rather than to look for lucrative deals.

Le Tissier was a one-club man, scoring 212 goals in 543 appearances for Southampton, while Benali had only a brief loan spell at Nottingham Forest away from the Saints.

Le Tissier recognises not all agents are bad and in it for themselves but wants to lead the way in helping players choose the right path.

"We want to put a bit of morality back into football if you like," he told Press Association Sport.

"The power shift has been quite noticeable, the player and agent are now holding clubs to ransom. There was a time when the clubs held the power but the shift has gone too far. We have bypassed the happy medium and there are a lot of people who take advantage of that.

"We want players who are interested in their careers first and their bank balance second. We'd like to think there are like-minded players out there who are in the game because they love it, rather than just their love of money.

"A lot of advice is given to players to move on to different clubs when it's not in the interest of the player.

"I've seen moves go through and I've sat there scratching my head thinking 'you're not going to play, why are you moving to sit on the bench?' and the reason boils down to just money which is a bit of a shame. We want to work with players who do not have that attitude."
