Saints will head abroad for a warm weather training camp to prepare for the League Cup final against Manchester United.

Saints have two weeks without a game before the Wembley showpiece following their 4-0 hammering of Sunderland.

Claude Puel has ordered his squad to have four days off to rest and recover with their families before they return to Staplewood in the middle of the week to begin the build-up for Wembley.

Saints will utilise their upcoming fixture free weekend by taking the squad away to Spain for a few days of intensive training as they focus all their efforts on to beating United to win what would be only the club’s second major piece of silverware.

Puel said: “We are going to take first of all these days off we deserve and after we got to make a training camp together to prepare this game and to find good condition also with calm and quality.

“We get to prepare this game and we know it’s a fantastic and exciting game.

“We are not the favourite of course but we know in football all is possible and we see this against Liverpool.

“To win with this result and four goals and with a clean sheet is very good for the confidence and good preparation also for this game.”

Saints will wrap up all media commitments for their players before they head abroad so the squad have more than a week to stay focussed together as a group without any further distractions.

Only Puel himself will face the press in the days leading up to the final, as Saints try to do all they can to give themselves the best chance of victory.

While Saints have time to prepare properly, United have three games before the final, including a Europa League trip to Saint-Etienne just a few days prior to the game.

For Puel the most important thing is to head to Wembley with confidence after the Sunderland victory.

“Sometimes it’s great of course. It was a fantastic game, a good game for my squad,” he smiled.

“It was a difficult game to come here away against this team with confidence with their last results and it would be difficult but with the spirit and attitude and the good concentration we can do a good game.

“It was difficult at the start of the game with the pressure with this team with free kicks and it was important to resist.

“After we do strong work together to defend and attack and to make quality on our play which was important.

“The two centre of the defence and the offensive give the good solution and to work together.

“This is a fantastic game and with all this games lost before it was very important to react and to give a good answer and I hope it is the first game of a good cycle of course.

“It was important to win this game with a fantastic performance and now just to take four days off holidays with their family because we deserve this with all these games without a possibility to recover and after we go to prepare the next game which is a little game.”
