SALISBURY Hockey Club Ladies firsts moved into second spot in West Clubs Women’s Hockey League Premier Division 2A with a five-star performance at home to troubled Chippenham.
Goals from Josie Steinson, Lisa Lovett, Kerry Jackson, with a pair, and Claire Grinham secured a 5-0 victory.
The Lower Bemerton outfit were keen to make an improvement on the draw earlier in the season and it wasn’t long before the deadlock was broken.
After a penalty stroke was saved, Salisbury eventually opened the scoring from Steinson’s penalty corner goal.
Soon after, Lovett followed up a rebound to double the hosts’ lead.
More pressure from the home side resulted in another well-worked goal from a penalty corner as captain Jackson, fresh off the Italian ski slopes, calmly found the net.
In the second half, Grinham rounded off some slick passes to bag a fourth.
And with the job already complete, Jackson notched a second after finishing with aplomb.
Chippenham, despite their speedy forwards, could only hit the post in reply, as Salisbury clinched a fifth successive win.
Newent pave the way at the summit with 40 points, while Salisbury are nine points behind but with a game in hand.
The two go head-to-head away at Newent on Saturday, March 18.
Before then, Salisbury face another league struggler on Saturday, with the trip to second-from-bottom Cheltenham seconds, who haven’t won in their last four outings, last winning on Saturday, January 14.
