Only 13 overs were played on a soggy second day of Hampshire and Somerset’s Division One Specsavers County Championship clash at the Ageas Bowl.
Gareth Berg dismissed Marcus Trescothick in the 54 minutes that were possible.
The former England star chopped an attempted cut on to his stumps, but debutant Eddie Byrom looked comfortable against the new pink ball before the rain arrived with Somerset 43-1 in reply to Hampshire's 211-9d.
Left-hander Byrom is playing because Dean Elgar is now preparing for South Africa's Test series against England.
The 20 year-old will start the third day on 13, with the Isle of Wight's Adam Hose on nine.
Umpires Ian Blackwell and Martin Saggers eventually abandoned any hope of more play at 6.30pm.
