ANDREW Surman has given Saints a pre-season boost by signing a new long-term contract.
The 20-year-old midfielder has penned a new four year deal to replace his previous contract which expired next summer.
"It's a brilliant feeling to sign a new contract," said Surman, who grew up in Bitterne.
"It's nice that people have shown belief in me, and enough belief to offer me a new contract.
"I am really honoured to play for this club."
Surman added: "I would love to play in the Premiership. In terms of Southampton, in the short term we want to get back in the Premiership and then long term we want to stay there."
