FAIR Oak Junior School will have have two teams representing Southampton FC at the finals of the Premier League Primary Stars Tournament - after completing a magnificent double.

The girls and boys teams won their respective regional tournaments at Goals in Millbrook to earn a finals place against other ‘Premier League’ teams at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium on May 23.

It is the first time in the competition’s history that the same school has won both tournaments in the same year.

Fair Oak were among 50 other schools vying for a place at finals day in the boys’ competition, which was organised by the Saints Foundation.

The A team won all five of their group games, including an 11-0 demolition of Tannersbrook and a 3-1 win against a tough St Francis side, before beating Bassett Green 3-1 in the the quarter-finals.

They showed superb character to twice come back from a goal down to draw 2-2 after extra-time in their semi-final with Valentine Primary - before winning the penalty shoot-out 4-1.

Fair Oak were in control throughout the final, which they won 3-1 against Ludlow.

The B team also played brilliantly, winning their first four group matches before losing their final pool game 3-0 against a strong Hollybrook Junior side, who went through with a 100 per cent record.

Fair Oak’s girls A team thrashed Weston Park 10-0 in their opening group game, followed by a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Springhill and wins against Cherbourg Primary (4-1) and Merdon Junior School (3-0).

After topping their group, Fair Oak beat Bassett Green 4-2 in the quarter-finals and Valentine 2-0 in the semi-finals with their finest display of the day.

A determined Fair Oak then beat Ludlow Junior School 5-2 in the final to book their place at the King Power Stadium.
