KATIE George was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury before depleted Southern Vipers ended their losing run.
With Danni Wyatt away for personal reasons, Tash Farrant already out of the competition and Arran Brindle struggling with a finger problem, losing Romsey-based left-armer George was another blow in what has comfortably been the worst of Vipers’ three Kia Super League seasons.
But Tammy Beaumont, who herself missed two-and-a-half games through concussion earlier in the tournament, struck 64, the team’s second-highest individual score, as the Vipers made 159-7.
Then Suzie Bates’ 4-26 secured Vipers’ second win this year as Yorkshire were bowled out for 143.
Vipers lost the toss but Beaumont and Bates got the hosts off to a flier.
England opener Beaumont looked in particularly good touch, as the duo reached 64 off the powerplay, before Bates was run out by Katherine Brunt’s direct hit.
Beaumont soon reached a 28-ball fifty, by smashing the first maximum of the match before being deceived by a slower ball and caught at wide mid-off.
Amelia Kerr had been caught on the slog sweep at deep mid-wicket after being elevated up the order in Wyatt’s absence.
Leg-spinner Kerr then opened the bowling with fellow 17-year-old Lauren Bell, a fast bowler making her debut.
Kerr continued to impress after having Beth Mooney caught behind off her first ball before Bates turned the screw with her four-wicket salvo.
