AFC STONEHAM will make FA Cup history again on Saturday when they entertain Woking outfit Westfield in the preliminary round.

Tim Cole’s Purples chartered new territory two weeks ago when they hosted Sydenhams Premier side AFC Portchester in the first ever FA Cup game in the club’s 100-year history.

That tie ended 0-0, but Stoneham, who play a division below the Royals, went on to boss the replay 3-0 with goals from Sergio Caballero, Alex Welch and Matt Palmer.

This Saturday’s tie presents another big challenge for the Sydenhams One underdogs with newly-promoted Westfield playing two steps up the non-League pyramid in the Bostik Isthmian South Central Division.

Chairman Mark Stupple is well aware of the task ahead and the journey the Chestnut Avenue club are on.

“Our victory at AFC Portchester was a great night for the club and the team were superb,” he said. “However, we now move on knowing that Westfield will potentially present a much tougher challenge.

They play two levels above us and comfortably won the Combined Counties Premier last season.

“To play in the FA Cup is a big step forward for the whole club and we are writing our own little piece of history and thoroughly enjoying ourselves.

“We were massive underdogs against AFC Portchester and will be even bigger underdogs against Westfield who will obviously expect to beat us.

“We have everything to gain and absolutely nothing to lose.

"It’s a typical David v Goliath tie, which is the beauty of the competition, and it’s one we very much look forward to.”

The club are hoping for a decent crowd and expect many of their 400-plus junior players will go along to support the first team.

Kick-off is 3pm at The HP Arena in Chestnut Avenue, Eastleigh, with tickets priced at £6 for adults (including a match programme) and £3 for concessions. Under-16 will be admitted free.

Stoneham dipped out of the Hampshire FA Senior Cup last night after losing a marathon penalty shootout 8-7 to Tadley Calleva.

The Purples led 2-0 at half-time through Marcel Laptas and Sergio Caballero (pen), but Tadley clawed back to 2-2 and it took 24 penalties to settle the issue.
