BOSS Ollie Cherrett insists Christchurch will have “absolutely nothing to lose” when they host Southampton in the second round of the Hampshire Senior Cup next month.

Goals from Jordan Cole, Scott Joyce and Luke Stone saw Priory register a 3-1 win over New Milton to set up the high-profile encounter with Saints' Under-23s, writes Neil Perrett.

Saints, who have entered the county cup after winning the Southampton Senior Cup last season, will visit the MA Hart Stadium at Hurn Bridge on Tuesday, September 18 (7.45pm).

Erickson Mukambi netted New Milton’s consolation with the Wessex One visitors reduced to 10 men in the closing stages following the dismissal of Callum Lee.

Cherrett, who plotted Priory’s promotion to Wessex Premier last season, told the (Bournemouth) Daily Echo: “I was really pleased with the performance and the result. It was a professional display in what was a banana skin cup tie.

“We are all looking forward to what will be a massive test and challenge in the next round.

“Southampton are a Premier League club and the players we will come up against are going to be full-time and have real quality.

“To pit ourselves against them will be a great opportunity and it will be a night to remember for the club when it comes round.

“We will have absolutely nothing to lose and will try to win the game. Hopefully, we can get a big crowd to make the experience something we will all remember.

“We now need to concentrate on our league game at home to Alresford on Saturday and then two big cup ties next week - against Petersfield in the League Cup and Follands in the FA Vase.”
