WINCHESTER CITY boss Craig Davis arrived at Wimborne Town last night expecting to watch the club's youngsters in Wyvern Premier Division action.

But Davis, a regular spectator at City's reserve games, instead ended up playing in goal for the Citizens, writes Mike Carter.

Regular reserve team keeper Josh Toombs fell ill late in the day and Davis stepped in at the last minute, helping the side to a 3-2 win at Cuthbury.

Davis, who was himself unwell last Saturday and spent the day in hospital while City's first team were winning 2-1 at Mangotsfield in the Evo-Stik Division One South, produced late heroics.

He smartly saved a Wimborne free-kick to ensure City's youngsters held on for all three points.

The visitors had fallen behind despite dominating proceedings early on. However, hard-working forward Ben Sunley headed City level.

Wimborne restored their advantage with an effort that took a heavy deflection, but City again came back strongly and levelled with a fine, long-range free-kick from defender Harvey Clark.

Lamar Koroma was later fouled in the box and he coolly dispatched the spot kick.

That, coupled with Davis' late save, made it two wins from two games for City's reserves, mirroring the form of the first team.
