SAM Wood has had his Eastleigh contract terminated by mutual consent and will be joining National League rivals Bromley.

The left-sided midfielder/wing-back made it clear to manager Andy Hessenthaler that he wanted to leave the Stoneham Lane club for personal reasons.

Hessenthaler explained: "Sam's been travelling two-and-a-half hours on the train to get to Eastleigh, whereas Bromley is on his doorstep.

"It's not ideal for us because we've only got a small squad and it leaves us short on the left-hand side if anything happens to Greener (Michael Green), but we've respected Sam's wishes.

"Whether we can replace him or not, I very much doubt because of the finances, but it's possible we could sort out a loan deal if we need to."

With Green fit again after an injury-riddled 2017/18 season, Wood had yet to start a match this term.

An Eastleigh statement said: "We would like to place on record our thanks to Sam for efforts at the club since he joined back in June 2017."
