ALRESFORD Town have their first Sydenhams Wessex League points in the bank – at the fourth time of asking.

Richard Luffman’s Magpies got off the mark with a dramatic 2-1 win at Christchurch.

It was an afternoon to treasure for skipper and midfielder Chris Mason, returning to action for Alresford after nine months out injured.

He and Jason Silver were introduced as substitutes early in the second half and both played their part in a rollercoaster finale.

Silver headed the Magpies in front from a 74th-minute corner and it looked as if the score would remain that way until Christhchurch hit back through Billy Walker a minute into stoppage time.

That was not the end of it though as Mason miraculously netted from outside the box to seal Alresford a last-gasp win.

A relieved Luffman tweeted: “What a rollercoaster. To concede in the 92nd minute was gut-wrenching.

“The ref indicated 90 seconds to play. We got the ball forward, won a corner, kept the ball alive and Mason did the rest.

"We deserved it 100%. We’re off and running. Now it’s time to push on up the table.”

Four-goal Bashley gave newly-promoted Tadley Calleva a reality check on Saturday.

Tadley had taken nine points out of nine following promotion to the Sydenhams Premier Division, but found themselves outclassed at Bashley Road.

Former AFC Totton central defender Tony Rolls laid the foundations for Bashley’s 4-0 league victory, carrying the ball the length of the pitch, leaving a string of failed tackles in his wake and slotting the ball past a bemused Sean O’Brien in the Tadley goal.

Calleva’s Sam Hamilton grazed the post with a free-kick before Dan Munday doubled the Foresters’ advantage from Harry Morgan’s assist.

Bashley had some defending to do at the start of the second half and they changed things up when Liam Farrugia, dual-signed from Weymouth, and striker Cameron Beard entered the fray.

Beard made his mark as Bashley finished with a flourish. First he headed on Morgan’s free kick for Munday to make it 3-0 with the cutest of finishes and then he joyfully hooked home the Foresters’ fourth after another powerful run by Rolls.

The first ‘El Creekio’ derby of the season ended in a 0-0 stalemate between AFC Portchester and Fareham Town, while Cowes Sports edged Team Solent 2-1 on the Isle of Wight.

Both sides scored first-half penalties – John McKie for Cowes and Silvano Obeng for the Students - before Ji Nash netted the Islanders’ winner.
