CUP specialists AFC Stoneham will be turning their attentions to the FA Vase this weekend.

The Purples have had another phenomenal week of knockout success, reaching the FA Cup first qualifying round in their debut season with a 2-0 win over two-leagues-higher Westfield of Woking before dumping Bemerton Heath Harlequins out of the Sydenhams League Cup.

Those exploits mean Tim Cole's Sydenhams One side can travel to Amersham with confidence on Saturday to play Hellenic League outfit Penn & Tylers Green in the FA Vase first qualifying round.

Looking back at another FA Cup glory day for Stoneham, who celebrate their centenary this term, chairman Mark Stupple said: "Last Saturday was a magnificent day for the club and probably the best result in 100 years.

"We are also delighted with the draw. To gain another home tie against a very good Step 4 team in Cirencester (Saturday, September 8, 3pm) is just reward for the team's efforts.

"I have no doubt it will be another great occasion and, with no Premier League games that day, we would hope for a great crowd which the boys deserve.

"The significance of the win affects the whole club, which has nearly 30 teams and 500 players, managers and coaches.

"As we grow and develop the club, the FA Cup success can only be a massive positive in gaining more volunteers and supporters.

"With a move to a brand new £9m facility - backed by the FA, Football Foundation and the Premier League - due to happen in just over 12 months, this success raises our profile and will act as a springboard for bigger and better things when we make the exciting move."

The Purples produced another "shock" on Tuesday, winning 4-3 at Wessex Premier league Bemerton Heath Harlequins in the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup. Goals from Joe Sutherden, Edu Jiminez, Ben Clarke and Josh Clark secured the victory.
