AFC TOTTON new boy Eddie Perrett has wasted no time winning over a new set of fans.

His versatility and eye for goal has already made him a hit with the Testwood Stadium faithful following his summer move from Salisbury.

Having opened his Stags account in Monday’s 1-1 draw at Blackfield & Langley, Perrett took just seven minutes to strike again in yesterday's 2-0 home win over newly-promoted Street in the Evo-Stik Division One South.

Charlie Gunson unleashed a shot which ricocheted into the path of Perrett, who neatly found the bottom corner.

Totton could have had more before 17-year-old sub Christos Papakonstantinou (Papa for short!) delved into his box of tricks to tee up Toby Adekunle for a 90th-minute second.

Perrett was signed as a left-back, but he was a jack of all trades at Salisbury and his early strike fully justified manager Louis Langdown’s decision to start him up top with Stuart Green.

“We had to play Eddie in central midfield at Blackfield but that was a bit alien to him. He’s better suited as a full-back or striker,” said the boss.

“He had two other opportunities to score – one a header from a corner which he should have done better with, but he was struggling a bit fitness-wise. I don’t think he’s used to playing five on the bounce.

“I don’t see Eddie as a permanent fixture up front, bur it helps to have people who can play in two or three positions.

"He’s ‘Mr Versatile’. The fans have already taken to him and the players like him too.”

Papakonstantinou has also got crowd appeal and he, along with young Alex Haynes, made a good impression off the bench.

“Papa’s got a trick in him and he does catch the eye,” said Langdown.

“It was good for him and Alex to come on and see out the game. It wasn’t a token gesture, they came on because they were needed.”

Totton’s win pulls them level on seven points with Blackfield whose unbeaten start was halted 2-1 at Evesham United.

Just seconds after Cory Simpson’s 37th-minute wonder strike had put them ahead, Evesham had Nathan Summers red-carded for a rash tackle on Charlie Urry.

But the ten-man Robins doubled their lead through Nick Humphreys on 75 minutes before Sami Makhloufi hit back for B&L in the ninth minute of stoppage time.

By then Evesham were down to nine having had Tyrone Tucker-Dixon stretchered off with a head injury with three subs already used.
