UNDER the circumstances Winchester City boss Craig Davis would have found it hard not to be satisfied with Saturday’s 1-1 FA Cup draw at Frome Town.

With the unwell Danny King joining suspended striker Oli Bailey, injured duo Liam Gilbert and Jake Rawkins and the honeymooning Rob Carr on the list of absentees, the Citizens had their work cut out playing a side from a higher division away from home.

But, having survived a scare when goalkeeper Ryan Pryce saved Ollie Knowles’ 28th-minute penalty, City went on to take the lead through Tyrell Mitford early in the second half before Kane Simpson pulled the Evo-Stik South Premier hosts back on terms in the 73rd minute.

City held firm in the closing stages despite losing defender Sam Roberts to a groin problem which makes him touch and go for tomorrow’s (Tuesday, 7.45pm) replay at the Simplyhealth City Ground.

Davis, who himself replaced the injured Roberts, said: “All things considered, it was a good effort from us in a game that swung this way and that.

“They started better, but then we took charge for the majority of the middle part of the game.

“We were moving the ball around well and that led to Tyrell turning his man and burying a shot across the keeper.

“But after Frome had scored, they had the momentum and they put us under late pressure.

“It was a good result for us to get them back to our place, but we’re far from thinking the job is over.”
