Shane Warne is ready for the biggest week of Hampshire's season - still hopeful of a Pro40 and County Championship double.

Hampshire will be denied the Pro40 title if Worcestershire beat Gloucestershire under the Bristol floodlights on Thursday, despite their 14-run win against Gloucestershire at the Rose Bowl yesterday.

But if they beat Kent in their penultimate Championship match, which starts at the Rose Bowl tomorrow, and leaders Sussex lose at Durham, Hampshire will be well placed to clinch their first title since 1973.

Warne said: "We're still fighting for two trophies. This week is a big week because by the end of it we'll know exactly where we're placed in the Pro40 and the Championship."

The Hampshire captain has admitted that winning the Championship will be the highlight of his county career.

Leaders Sussex are nine points clear, with two games left, and Hampshire are level on points with Lancashire in third.

But Warne is confident.

He said: "If Durham can beat Sussex in the Championship this week and we beat Kent, by my maths we'll be up to eight or ten points ahead going into the last round of games. But if Sussex beat Durham and we beat Kent it could be really hard work."

Hampshire could win the Pro40 title if they win their last game against Lancashire at Old Trafford on Sunday, and Worcestershire lose their last two at Bristol and against local rivals Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

If that happens, both counties will finish with five wins, so first place will be decided by run rate, which currently favours Worcestershire.

Warne said: "If Worcestershire beat Gloucestershire on Thursday we'll know we can't win the Pro40, but if they lose we'll still be in with a chance if we win our last game.

"With two weeks of the season left, it's a good position to be in. It's been a frustrating year with not a lot of things going our way with the weather and other things, but we're still hanging in there, playing good cricket."
