TWO-GOAL Rudy Plummer has fired Blackfield & Langley to the top of the Evo-Stik Division One South.

The nomadic striker appears to have found a settled home with the Watersiders and emerged as their two-goal hero at Paulton Rovers yesterday.

Making up for an earlier miss, Plummer struck on the stroke of half-time and again in the 50th minute to steer the newly-promoted Wessex champions towards a 2-1 victory.

Liam Monelle got one back for Paulton in the 56th minute before being knocked unconscious and stretchered off.

Plummer was also forced into an early departure by a quad muscle problem.

“We’re top of the table and we’re there on merit,” smiled Blackfield’s co-assistant boss Chris Farrell.

“We managed the game very well and defended well as a team against a good, strong, physical Paulton side.

“Rudy’s scored two very good striker’s goals and should probably have had one or two more.

"Paulton’s goal was a worldy and the kid that scored it got knocked out, leaving them with ten men for what was left of the game. We cleared one off the line (from Trey Anderson) towards the end.

“It was a good day all round for us with (previous leaders) Evesham getting beaten by Yate, leaving us a point clear.

“Did we expect to be up there after seven games? Probably not, but we’ll take it,” he added.

“The picture will be clearer after ten or 15 games but we can only do what we’re doing.

"It’s given everyone around the club a feel-good factor.”
