BLACKFIELD & LANGLEY came safely through their first ever FA Trophy tie, eclipsing Highworth Town 3-0 at Gang Warily yesterday.
It sets up an October 13 preliminary round trip to Yate Town, who replaced them at the Evo-Stik One South summit with a 4-1 win over Fleet.
Rudy Plummer opened the scoring for B&L on 24 minutes and then doubled his tally on the half-hour with a cracking strike from Sami Makhloufi’s assist.
Sam Poole rounded things off with a stooping header from a corner in time added on at the end of the tie.
“Glenn (Howes, manager) was pleased with the result, but not so pleased with the performance,” reported co-assistant boss Chris Farrell.
“We didn’t play that well and were on the back foot for most of the game. Highworth probably didn’t deserve to lose, but it’s about taking your chances.
“We’ve got a nice easy game at Yate now!”
The Watersiders will come face to face with Highworth again on Saturday, this time away from home in the league.
