THE last time Bashley and Christchurch met in the league was in season 1988/89 with Bashley coming out on top by 6-0.

On Saturday Priory took sweet revenge by inflicting a humiliating 4-1 Sydenhams Premier defeat on their listless visitors.

Bashley didn’t help their cause by conceding a penalty after just ten minutes - James King accepting this gift to put Priory 1-0 up.

Ten minutes into the second half Bash sent on young striker Nathan Clements, but it was Priory who struck again.

Jason Collins, left exposed, rushed out of his goal to contest a long ball directed to Josh Kirkham. Kirkham won the contest and gratefully found the unguarded goal.

Almost from the kick-off, the same two players performed an action replay with Kirkham striking again to put Christchurch three up.

Ex-Bash marksman Scott Joyce was having a relatively quiet day, but curled in number four after being left totally unmarked on the edge of the box.

Bashley came more into the game in the last 25 minutes and pulled one back through Clements after Cameron Beard’s fierce shot had been palmed out by keeper Max Frampton.

Horndean are up to second after seeing off Baffins Milton Rovers 2-0 at Five Heads Park with goals from Alfie Lis and Connor Duffin.

At 1-0 down, Baffins had a great chance to level, but were denied by what Deans boss Michael Birmingham described as “the save of the season” by keeper Kieran Magee.

Pete Stiles’ Fareham Town flushed a humiliating 9-0 Wessex League Cup defeat by Cowes Sports out of their system by beating Hamble Club at Cams Alders.

One goal was enough to win it – Nathan Paxton striking in the 73rd minute for his first goal for the club.

Bournemouth Poppies’ deadly Finch-Flynn partnership condemned Portland United to a 6-2 defeat at the Weyline Stadium.

Mickey Finch plundered a hat-trick, Steve Flynn scored twice and Harry Cooper was also on target for Poppies, who had Chris Speers red-carded late on.

Between them, Finch and Flynn have scored 25 goals this season.

Alex Godfrey and Jamie Symes registered for Portland, whose manager Brendon King admitted: “They deserved to win.

"Their goals came from long balls or set-pieces. Defensively we were poor.”

Veteran marksman Rowan Vine plundered his second goal in as many games for Alresford Town – but it was not enough to spare them a 2-1 home defeat by Tadley Calleva.

Goals by Brett Denham and Cameron George put the visitors in the ascendancy before Vine pulled one back for the Magpies late on.

“Alresford tweeted: “If we’re being honest the scoreline flattered us as for long periods we were second best. Well done to Tadley on the win.”

Lymington Town remain unbeaten in the Sydenhams Premier after edging Cowes Sports 3-2 at Southampton Road with goals by Charlie Hennen, Sam House and Jake King. John McKie and James Wykes replied for the Yachtsmen.

Brockenhurst came out on top of the Friday night showdown at Team Solent, winning 3-0.

Ex-Solent man Matt Burt the Badgers off the mark with a 14th-minute cross-shot and was joined on the scoresheet by Matt Casey (45) Mo Nyang (88).

Clubs all around the Wessex region held a minute’s silence in memory of Hamworthy United’s goalkeeper coach Ben Scott who sadly passed away last week.

On the day of remembrance, the Hammers beat Bemerton Heath Harlequins 2-0 with goals by Jamie Filkins and Sam Bayston.

Andover New Street's troubles deepened with a 4-2 defeat at Shaftesbury.
