AFTER three galas, held at Swindon, Trowbridge and finally, Five Rivers Salisbury, Stingrays Masters swimmers managed a creditable third place out of 12 clubs, behind Swindon Dolphins and Warminster District in the annual county championships.

Despite impressive gold medal tallies by Carol Vaughan, Lesley Maynard and Liz Latter with five golds each, and a further 13 gold, 14 silver and eight bronze medals across the team.

The Stingrays were unable to match clubs with larger teams and crucially, a much wider age range of competitors.

Only three Salisbury swimmers competing at Five Rivers were under 40, leaving five age groups unrepresented.

In the past Salisbury have been county champions on numerous occasions including five times between 2009 and 2016.

The club currently has an urgent need for new, younger, members who would enjoy this friendly and sociable club, and, by competing, help them regain their place as the premier Wiltshire Masters Club.

Masters swimming in Salisbury, with its first class facilities at Five Rivers, offers all the benefits of swimming as an exercise, a cardio vascular full body workout, giving improved flexibility and a feeling of well-being.

They have a professional coach, and currently swim twice a week.

This on a Monday evening between 8pm and 9 pm at Five Rivers, and on a Wednesday evening between 7pm and 8pm at The Godolphin School, Salisbury.

l For further information on how to join please contact their Masters representative John Sneesby, jsneeze@btinternet.com or simply turn up at Five Rivers on a Monday and come and swim with them.
