George Burley is confident of tying up the signing of a loan defender later today.

The Saints boss confirmed this lunchtime he has spoken to a Premiership club and the player himself over the switch and is hoping to tie up the formalities this afternoon so he will be available to face Barnsley at St Mary's on Saturday.

Burley was not prepared to reveal the name of the player but Christian Dailly of West Ham has been strongly linked.

He said: "We've spoken to a player today and a manager and we're hoping to complete it today in time for Saturday."
