Man of the moment Nathan Dyer is a doubt for tomorrow's visit of Barnsley.

The young winger, who has made such an impact in the last few games including his first league goal for the club at Watford, took a kick to his thigh towards the end of Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Colchester at St Mary's.

Saints will be desperately hoping he recovers, but he is a major doubt.

Adam Hammill is on stand-by to deputise and make his first league start for Saints.

Burley also has a worry over Rudi Skacel, who has a tight hamstring after his first game in a month on Wednesday. Gregory Vignal could be recalled in his place.

Burley said: "It's going to be our third game in a week which is a lot.

"Nathan Dyer got a knock on his thigh. He got a kick near the end which he received treatment for.

"Rudi Skacel's feeling his hamstring and we've still got Darren Powell and Jason Euell out.

"We'll assess the fitness and sharpness in view of so many games".

When Saints faced Barnsley at St Mary's last season they scored five goals.

But Burley is expecting a tougher test after the Tykes performed well in their 0-0 draw at Stoke in midweek.

"Every game is different," said the Saints boss.

"We scored a few against Barnsley last season but it won't be easy".
