JAKE Hesketh wants to stay at Burton Albion beyond January in a bid to impress Saints.

The youngster is on-loan with the League One outfit and has scored two goals in his 16 appearances for the side.

Heskteh’s spell with Burton is set to end in January, but the 22-year-old is keen to stay until the end of the season.

He said: "I'm happy, I want to stay, I'm playing football and I'm enjoying myself.

"That's down to the club here, the management, to want me to stay. That's what I want to do.

"I don't think I really need to have a word with the manager.

"It's their decision at the end of the day.

"Once they make that decision, then it'll come to me and it'll be straightforward from there, I guess."

Hesketh delighted Saints fans when he lit up Fratton Park with an excellent goal which saw him dribble his way past the Pompey defence before firing his shot into the roof of the net.

One of the reasons he moved to Burton in the first place was to get regular game time in an attempt to impress Mark Hughes.

But with his options of featuring in Hughes’ side limited, Hesketh thinks the best way to impress his parent club is by playing every week in League One.

Hesketh added: "For them looking, they'll see me getting the ball to feet - it's how they're going to play and how it is up there.

"So that's what I need to show I am able to do.

"The experience of playing League football benefits you regardless, I think.

"But coming and playing that kind of way has a bigger impact as well."
