JANNIK Vestergaard is hoping for a fresh start under Ralph Hasenhuttl.
The defender has struggled for game time since his summer arrival – featuring only nine times for Saints.
But with Hasenhuttl taking his first training session today, Vestergaard is keen to impress the new boss.
Vestergaard said: “You want to leave an impression and show the best side of yourself.
“It’s a new start for everyone. He comes in with an open mind and even will start from zero.
“I don’t think this is just for me, I think everyone is now at the same level and needs to show themselves.
“This isn’t a good situation at the moment and no one is happy, but it is a good opportunity to start over.”
Vestergaard finds himself battling with Wesley Hoedt, Jack Stephens and Maya Yoshida for a place in the heart of the Saints defence.
He sees this as something that can only benefit the side in the long-term and insists there i plenty more to come from himself.
“This is a very competitive league and a very competitive team,” Vestergaard added.
“We have a lot of good centre-backs who are fighting for two spots and obviously, everyone wants to play every game.
“I’m not happy with that, but I know I still have to show who I really am and what I can give to this team.
“I’m really just focusing on myself and getting the best of me on the pitch.”
