Witney opened the scoring, but Basingstoke battled on, equalising just before half-time through a penalty corner strike from Clare Griffiths.

In the second half, Basingstoke showed composure, and creativity through a wonderful diagonal run by captain Catriona Bausor, finding Clare Bowman in the attacking circle, who unleashed an amazing reverse stick shot.

Excellent team interplay and quick reactions from Fiona Parker allowed her to score Basingstoke’s third goal from close range. They then increased their lead, with Kirsty Kent scoring the team’s fourth goal from another penalty corner.

Witney pulled a goal back, but it finished 4-2.

Next week they welcome top of the table Surbiton in what will undoubtedly be a cracking game before Christmas.

The seconds won 3-1 against Andover. The goal scorers were Sarah Mainprise, Phillipa O’Sullivan and Sarah Shearing.

The thirds knew they were in for a tough match against top of the league Fleet and Ewshot.

Both teams had great opportunities in the first half with the goalkeepers ensuring it was 0-0 at half time.

The second half was more of the same with Fleet and Ewshot moving the ball well, and Basingstoke hitting back on the counter attack.

It finally took an extraordinary dribble through five Basingstoke players for Fleet and Ewshot to score the winner.

A 1-0 defeat in a cracking game of hockey and plenty to spur the thirds on.

The fourth team beat Fleet and Ewshot 3-2, with two great goals from Amy Rowe and the other coming from Ella Boyd.

In a show of strength, courage, determination and experience, the fifth team clawed their way back from being 2-0 down at the end of the first half to lead 3-2 against Alton IIs.

However, Alton were awarded a short corner, which they somehow managed to scramble past a sea of red players as it finished 3-3.

Basingstoke's goals came from player of the match Joey Lockyer, Lynne Wood and captain, Karen Binney.

The sixth side defended well against a strong Haslemere, who took the lead.

Basingstoke responded on a counter attack, Megan Payne found her way through Haslemere’s defence to even the score.

In the second half Haslemere continued their onslaught on their way to a 3-1 win.

Playing at home, the sevenths won 4-2 against top of the league Haslemere V.

The opposition led the scoring in the first half, with Basingstoke equalising with a great goal from Kerry Barker.

In the second half, Basingstoke scored three more goals, two from Joey Lockyer and another goal from the experienced Barker. Haslemere scored a second, but a great game and solid performance kept the sevenths in the game, with player of the match going to Patricia Flynn for her hard work throughout the game.

The under-14s ladies lost 6–2 against a strong and well drilled Andover who meant business.

While Basingstoke took a while to get going, struggling under the onslaught of attacks, resulting in Andover’s first goal. Basingstoke responded with an equaliser through Megan Payne. Andover scored another goal with great attacking play, but again, Basingstoke responded through a goal from Madeline Ripton-Palmer

In the second half, Andover stepped up their game pressing hard, and showing great skill in midfield, which gifted them with more goals.

Goalkeeper and player of the match, Scarlett Hale, had a great game saving lots of goals.

In the over 40’s England Hockey Masters match, Basingstoke welcomed Sonning to Down Grange.

Basingstoke started slowly, with Sonning piling on a lot of pressure from the onset.

The over 40’s struggled to get out of their half, resulting in a goal from Sonning in the 20 twenty minutes.

Basingstoke held strong in defence, with Mikey Wright, delivering a performance that rolled back the years.

Just before half time, Mark Hogan scored Basingstoke‘s equaliser.

In the second half, Sonning stepped up a gear, but Basingstoke’s midfield and defence held strong.

A questionable pass from the floor inside the D saw the Sonning striker dispatch a reverse stick shot into the far corner. Basingstoke drew level through a goal from Shaughnessy and the game went to nail biting penalties, which Basingstoke won. Basingstoke progress to the third round, where they face Taunton Vale on January 13.

Men’s 1s lost 3-2 against London Edwardians 2s, while the seconds lost 3-1 against Southampton University. The thirds won 4-2 against Winchester 5s.

Fresh from a two-game winning streak the fourth team were away at Southampton III.

Southampton found the back of the net first, thanks to a defensive error, with a disappointing second goal converting from a short corner.

In the second half, Basingstoke regrouped and fought back to earn a hard-worked goal through Euan Rixson.

Unfortunately, Basingstoke struggled to find their previous game form and lost 3-1.
