GUIDO Carrillo has been nominated for November’s La Liga Player of the Month award.

Carrillo joined Spanish side Leganes in the summer to link-up with Mauricio Pellegrino and has scored five goals in 14 matches, including a brace against Valladolid.

He faces stiff competition for the La Liga award from Ousmane Dembele, Dani Carvajal and Iago Aspas.

Pellegrino signed the striker for £19.2m in January after previously managing him at Estudiantes, but the 27-year-old struggled to adapt to the Premier League.

And when Pellegrino lost his job, Mark Hughes decided to freeze the striker out of his plans.

Hughes then signed a three-year deal in the summer which left Carrillo in even more limbo regarding his future at the club.

This led to him joining Leganes on a season-long loan to play for Pellegrino again.

However, with Saints struggling for goals, it begs the question whether he was given a fair crack at the whip.
