Saints shocked Arsenal with a 3-2 victory at St Mary's to lift them out of the relegation zone.

Here are five things we learned from the game:

1. Danny Ings’ return couldn’t have come at a better time:

Daily Echo:

Ings’ two goals gave Saints fans a timely reminder of his importance to the side.

Still not fully fit, the striker didn’t stop pressing the Arsenal defence and didn’t give them a minute’s rest.

If Saints are to gain a bit of momentum going into a difficult – but crucial – run of games, then Ings is going to be paramount to any success.

2. Hasenhuttl has Saints playing to his tune:

Daily Echo:

The Austrian was keen to give Saints fans something to cheer about ahead of his first game in charge at St Mary’s.

And it’s fair to say that he done exactly that.

Hasenhuttl dished out free beer before the game and then sent the supporters home in a merry mood following an excellent 3-2 win over Arsenal.

The players know their roles and what is expected of them and with another full week of training ahead, things should only get better.

3. Saints finally won at home:

Daily Echo:

This was Saints’ second win at St Mary’s in a calendar year, so it’s a long way off before it can be called a fortress again.

However, with the unexpected win over Arsenal, it shows that the signs are certainly looking positive.

Hasenhuttl’s style of play gets fans on the edge of their seats and creates an atmosphere that can only benefit the home side.

And if Saints can replicate yesterday’s performance against West Ham, then the stadium will continue to get louder and louder.

4. Jan Bednarek is growing in confidence:

Daily Echo:

The Polish international has been brought in from the wilderness by Saints’ new boss and Bednarek is starting to repay the faith shown in him.

After a shaky performance at Cardiff, you can already see the benefits of the manager’s coaching.

Bednarek put in an excellent tackle to deny Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the first half which prevented Arsenal going ahead.

It’s crucial that Hasenhuttl settles on a defensive line-up now and looks to build on yesterday’s result.

5. Nathan Redmond will be instrumental in pressing from the front:

Daily Echo:

Before limping off injured, Redmond was relentless with his pressing.

The winger continuously harried the Arsenal defence and caused them all sorts of problems.

Redmond won the ball back on a number of occasions before starting another attacking move, and if he continues to buy into Hasenhuttl’s philosophy, it will bode well for Saints.
