Saints could rotate their squad over the Christmas and New Year period – but will not worry about it before taking on Huddersfield tomorrow.

Ralph Hasenhuttl is set for his first taste of an English festive fixture list with Saints having five games in a fortnight.

Most Premier League managers will use their full squad in a bid to try and keep players fresh and it is something Hasenhuttl is already considering.

However, his first priority is putting out a team he feels can beat Huddersfield and then assessing the players from there.

He said: “In the moment I am happy that I find the first 11 that showed me against Arsenal that it is possible that it fits good together.

“I am not in the situation that I change everything because one or the other player is a little bit tired. That is not in my mind at the moment.

“I am glad that I find now a first 11 and to come in this team is not so easy at the moment because they put something in my account and showed me they are able to take a win.

“Sure if you play Thursday, Sunday and Wednesday against West Ham, Man City and Chelsea it can be that with our intensive kind of football it’s not possible to play three times in a row.

“Therefore, we will need the whole squad, and that’s what I am telling the guys at the moment. We have at the moment 23 players in each training so we need everyone and it can go quicker than everyone thinks so stay focused, stay good working and maybe the chance comes earlier than you think.”

Saints have had a host of injured players return to training.

Mario Lemina, Jack Stephens and Cedric Soares all missed the Arsenal game but are ready for selection again.

“This week five players came out of the physio room,” smiled Hasenhuttl.

“Now the squad trained this week with 23 players so a little bit too much for one exercise but everyone wants to jump up on the train because it’s leaving the station.

“It can be a coincidence that everyone is fit now again but they feel that now in the moment we build up something interesting and everyone wants to be part of it.”

He added: “They are back in training now but if they are all in the 18 to go with us to Huddersfield I don’t know yet.

“We have another training session where we try to make a few tactical things and then we decide who we take there.”
