Saints veteran Steven Davis is expected to leave Saints this month to join his former club Rangers.

The Northern Ireland captain has fallen down the pecking order under Ralph Hasenhuttl and has entered the final six months of his contract.

Because of this, Saints’ manager is keen to get the situation resolved sooner rather than later.

The Austrian said: ““The fact is that he has a contract here until the summer, so what we want to give him is a chance to make the next step.

“If there is the possibility, then we will help him to do so.

“He has done a lot for this club and we will find a good solution which is a win-win for both sides.”

Davis joined Saints from Rangers in 2012 and has gone on to make 193 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals in the process.

But with Stuart Armstrong arriving in the summer, Davis has seen his time on the pitch stripped back.

He has played six times in all competitions so far this season with his previous start coming in the 3-1 defeat to Tottenham last month.
