Maya Yoshida captained Japan to a second AFC Asia Cup in a row.
The Saints centre half played the full 90 minutes as Japan made it two wins from two in Group F as they defeated Oman 1-0.
The only goal of the game came after 28 minutes with Genki Haraguchi winning and converting a penalty.
Japan have already defeated Turkmenistan and round off their group stage campaign against Uzbekistan on Thursday.
