Saints are said to be interested in signing Enock Kwateng from French side Nantes, according to reports in Goal France.
The report claims that the St Mary’s outfit sent scouts to watch the 21-year-old right back in action over the weekend.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side is currently short in that department of the pitch due to Cedric Soares joining Inter Milan on loan until the end of the season last month.
Yan Valery, who graduated from the Saints academy, has currently made that position his own, but it’s no secret that Saints want to strengthen the back four.
Hasenhuttl was keen to recruit Joakim Mæhle from Genk in the January transfer window but the Belgian side didn’t want to lose a key player during the season.
Kwateng’s contract with Nantes is said to expire at the end of the season and, the report suggests, he doesn’t want to extend his stay.
The French defender has made 19 appearances in Ligue 1 this season.
