SAINTS boss Ralph Hasenhuttl says he isn’t concerned about his options in attack.

His side will be without the injured duo of Michael Obafemi, who is out for the rest of the season, and Danny Ings for tonight’s match with Fulham.

Despite this, Hasenhuttl is backing Charlie Austin, Nathan Redmond and Shane Long to fire Saints towards Premier League safety.

The Austrian said: “We have a few options in the back and I think Redmond showed that he can be a striker who scores.

“He is very flexible, and I am positive. I trust every player I have.

“Longy has shown that he can score.

“At Leicester, he made a fantastic game, with one assist and one goal.

“I think we also showed that we have other players who can score. If we take Prowsey (James Ward-Prowse) for example, or Pierre [Hojbjerg]. Also, the centre-backs can score.

“What we need tonight is to have a very balanced defence against a team that is playing mainly to the striker [Aleksander] Mitrovic, who is a very good guy, and they also have [Ryan] Babel.

“We have to focus on getting a good balance in the defensive work and then we always have the chance to score.”

Austin was told he could leave Saints in the January transfer window, but he decided to stay and battle for his place in the starting XI.

He has largely been reduced to a role on the bench, with Redmond being preferred to play up front as a false nine.

The 29-year-old striker came off the bench during Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal and had come close to getting Saints back into the game with a header.

And because of this impact off the bench, Hasenhuttl believes Austin will always create an opportunity for himself to find the back of the net.

Saints’ boss added: “I think it’s also a part of quality that when you come on in a match and show that you can always be part of a scoring situation.

“I think Chaz showed this. He is a very good substitution player and I think it’s easy if you come in the game after 60 minutes when the opponent is a little bit tired.

“You come in fresh and fully motivated and know that you can put some pressure on them.

“I like this situation. I was a striker before and when I was substituted, I was a very good joker.”
