MICK McCarthy is keen to meet with Saints ace Nathan Redmond.

The Republic of Ireland boss wants to see whether Redmond would be interested in playing for the national side.

McCarthy took charge of The Green Army in November but is yet to manage the team, with his first game not coming until next month against Gibraltar.

Redmond, who already has one cap for England which came in a friendly against Germany, qualifies to play for the Republic of Ireland through his mother.

Despite this, McCarthy believes that the Saints winger wants to wait and see whether Gareth Southgate will give him an opportunity with the Three Lions.

McCarthy said: “I’ve been speaking to the [Nathan Redmond’s] agent.

“Maybe he still has designs on playing for England, I don’t know.

“I haven’t asked him the question because I haven’t spoken to him. I’ve been trying to meet him.”
