ANGUS Gunn has pipped Manchester United’s David De Gea to the top of 2019’s Premier League save percentage chart.

The stats, which include the keepers that have played over five times since the turn of the year, show that Gunn has saved 80 per cent of the shots fired at him.

Arsenal’s Bernd Leno is a close second with 77.8 per cent, with De Gea third on 75.5 per cent.

Gunn made his Premier League debut against Chelsea at the beginning of the year and went on to make a record six saves in the goalless draw at Stamford Bridge.

Despite this being Saints’ only clean sheet under Ralph Hasenhuttl at the time, the Austrian reverted back to Alex McCarthy for the match with Leicester.

McCarthy remained as number one until the Arsenal match last month.

Gunn was drafted back into the side and made a string of fine saves to deny the Gunners winning by a wider margin than 2-0.

The 22-year-old remained between the sticks for the crucial home game against Fulham just days later.

This resulted in another clean sheet, which also became only the second time they’ve managed to shut the other side out since Hasenhuttl’s December arrival.

Gunn then played against Manchester United in the 3-2 defeat and saved a last-gasp penalty from Paul Pogba.

And he went into the international break with England Under-21s on the back of another fine performance in the 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
