Nathan Redmond scooped two of the major honours at Saints’ annual awards dinner.

The midfielder, who also leads the voting for the Daily Echo Player of the Season award, picked up two gongs at the glittering dinner at St Mary’s.

Redmond scooped both the Fans’ Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Year awards to top off a fantastic season.

The 25-year-old recovered from a tough spell where he was being booed by supporters and left out of the team to make a major impact during the current campaign.

He is the only player to have figured in all 37 of Saints’ Premier League matches so far, scoring five goals and providing four assists. Redmond has also bagged another three goals in the FA Cup.

There was also recognition for James Ward-Prowse’s remarkable second half of the campaign, which saw him score seven times and culminated in an England recall, as he scooped the President’s Choice Award.

The honour is selected and presented by club president and record Saints appearance maker Terry Paine.

The First Team Young Player of the Year award went to Yan Valery, who made his debut under Mark Hughes and has flourished under the guidance of Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Academy Player of the Year went to Will Ferry while Women’s Player of the Year was Shannon Sievweright and Girls’ Regional Talent Club Player of the Year was named as Caitlin Smith.

Meanwhile, Saints academy star Will Smallbone has been nominated for this year’s Premier League 2 Player of the Season award.

The 19-year-old, who was recognised for his impressive form with a two-year contract extension in December, has emerged as a key figure in Radhi Jaidi’s Under-23s side this term, operating in a variety of midfield roles.

The winner of the award will be announced on the evening of Wednesday, May 16, at the Premier League Youth Development Conference hosted by Fulham.

  • Voting remains open until tomorrow for the Daily Echo Player of the Season.
