DANNY Ings is looking forward to striking up a partnership with summer signing Che Adams.

Adams Joined the club for £15m at the beginning of July and already has two goals in as many games during pre-season.

And Ings admitted that the former Birmingham ace has been a great addition to Saints’ attacking department.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Ings said: “It’s been really good.

“He very strong, both mentally and physically. He is a great addition.

“He gives us something different and he is already scoring goals in pre-season.

“It can only be a positive for us moving forward.”

When questioned whether they can form a successful partnership together, Ings added: “I think so.

“We are slightly different players. It’s always positive bringing top talent into the club and to work hard with.”

Like Adams, Ings also has two goals to his name during pre-season.

The ex-Liverpool and Burnley striker netted twice against Championship side Preston last Sunday.

As well as the goals, Winchester-born Ings proved to be instrumental in stringing the play together.

His incisive passes continually found teammates in space who were then able to create a chance on goal.

Ings' season was hampered by injuries last year, but, despite this, he finished as the club's second-highest scorer behind winger Nathan Redmond.

With boss Ralph Hasenhuttl strengthening his front line this summer, the 27-year-old explained that fighting for a place in the starting XI will only help the team in a positive way.

“Competition is great for any team, but the main aim is for us to get stronger as a team,” continued Ings.

“Competition brings the best out of everybody, but our main aim is to improve on last season.

“We know we have the ability in the changing room to do that so it’s about putting all the pieces together and being as strong as we can be.”

Even though Saints have started to show signs of exactly what Hasenhuttl wants from them, Ings doesn't want to set targets for the season ahead.

He added: “I’m not going to pinpoint what we can achieve, we just need to make sure we are getting better every day on the training pitch.

“We know that if we are doing those things right then the performances at the weekend are going to come. It’s really exciting stuff.”
