ORIOL Romeu and Jack Stephens missed Saints’ pre-season match against Feyenoord yesterday after picking up injuries in Dublin.

The Daily Echo understands that the duo were in line to make the trip to Holland, but were instead left at home to recover.

Saints had spent last week in the Irish capital preparing for the upcoming Premier League season that gets underway with a trip to Burnley on August 10.

Summer signing Moussa Djenepo was also left behind having only arrived at Staplewood last Wednesday.

The £14m winger was given extra time off over the summer following his stint with Mali in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

He spent his first day with Saints undergoing a series of fitness tests which all the players have to complete at the beginning of pre-season.

Djenepo was then given a guided tour of St Mary’s before getting himself ready for his first full week of training.

Due to the players having a day off today, manager Ralph Hasenhuttl will have to wait for his chance to integrate the winger into his team in time for Saturday’s pre-season match.

Saints will welcome FC Koln to St Mary’s in what will be Hasenhuttl’s final chance to see his squad in full flow before the all-important away trip to Burnley.

And the Austrian gave his biggest hint yet of who is going to be involved in his side’s Premier League squad.

Hasenhuttl managed to whittle his team down to just 23 for their game against Feyenoord yesterday afternoon - although Romeu and Stephens would normally have been involved, as would Djenepo.

This comes on the back of an extensive pre-season where the manager has been able to cast his eye over the not only the players who were sent on loan in January, but also the youngsters bubbling beneath the first team squad.
