Guido Carrillo has re-joined former Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino after agreeing a season long loan deal at Leganes.

The club record £19m signing spent all of last season at the La Liga side, now managed by Pellegrino, who brought him to St Mary’s in January 2018, where he scored six goals in 33 appearances.

Saints had been holding out in an attempt to sell Carrillo and move him permanently off the club’s wage bill.

Boca Juniors had expressed an interest but the price tag was understood to be too high for them, while Carrillo preferred to remain in Europe.

However, there were not any teams willing to part with a decent fee to sign the Argentinian international and so Saints have had to agree to another loan.

When this season long loan comes to an end Carrillo will have just one year remaining on his contract which means any value he had will plummet, leaving Saints staring at a colossal financial loss on the striker.
