Maya Yoshida played the full 90 minutes as Japan defeated Paraguay 2-0 in the Kirin Challenge Cup.
Goals from Yuya Osako and Takumi Minamino secured the win.
Yoshida was rested for Japan’s Copa America campaign in the summer but was recalled to action again to win his 96th cap.
He is expected to get within three of his century on Tuesday when Japan travel to Myanmar for a World Cup qualifier.
