Saints U23 striker Marcus Barnes is determined to break into Eastleigh’s starting line-up.

The 22 year-old, who made his Saints debut under Ralph Hasenhuttl last season, made his debut as a 78th-minute substitute in the 2-0 win against Boreham Wood on Tuesday night.

Barnes, who has joined Eastleigh on a three-month loan, said: “It was a good experience to finally get on the pitch.

“My first aim is to get in the starting line up and then to get some goals and help the team get up the table. I’m going to take every opportunity I get and use every training session to show the manager what I can do.”

Eastleigh manager Ben Strevens said: “Marcus is tall and direct and provides something different.”

Barnes is in Eastleigh’s squad for Saturday’s trip to Ebbsfleet United.
