FRASER Forster hopes his loan spell at Celtic will force England boss Gareth Southgate to make a decision over his Three Lions future.

Forster, 31, made his international debut in a friendly match against Chile back in November 2013.

He went on to make a further five England appearances until being dropped from the squad altogether in 2017, but now he’s back in the Europa League with Celtic, he hopes his chances of a recall have been boosted.

Forster said: “I’d love to be a part of the England squad.

“I’d never close that door. I’d always want that to be an ambition of mine.

“We went through the Champions League the last time, we’re going through the Europa League this year.

“It all comes down to me performing the best I can, whether it’s Europa League or in the league.

“I don’t know Gareth Southgate’s preferences. But play as well as I can and the rest will take care of itself.

“If I’m doing that then it forces other people into making decisions. The main thing is I work hard and try to perform well here.”

The goalkeeper departed for Celtic on a season-long loan in the summer in order to play regular first-team football again.

He had fallen way down the pecking order at Saints, making just one appearance since Boxing Day 2017.

However, Forster feels as though he’s turned over a new leaf at Celtic - the team he joined Saints from - and is enjoying the toughness of their Europa League group.

The Scottish giants currently top their group, which contains CFR Cluj, Lazio and Rennes.

When questioned whether the quality he’s competing against in the Europa League will aid him in his quest for and England nod, he responded: “Definitely, it’s a very good group to be in.

“It’s a very open group at the minute, but it’s one we really want to get out of.

“There are the big games against big teams and we have a double header against Lazio coming up.

“But they’re the games you want to play in and that’s why we all love it when Celtic are in the Champions League.”
