DANNY Ings is hungry for more goals after bagging another one against Watford on Saturday.

The striker has hit the ground running this season, scoring nine times in all competition, with seven of those coming in the Premier League.

This has left him seventh in this year’s top-flight scoring chart and level with England and Tottenham star Harry Kane.

Asked whether this is the best he’s played in a long time, he responded: “For a while, it definitely is.

“It’s a form that every striker wants to build on and I always want more.

“I’m working as hard as I can every day on finishing and the small-sided games in training to try and get better and better.”

Despite his impressive haul, Ings says he would be happy not scoring if it meant Saints were to get three points against Norwich tomorrow night.

“It’s a mindset of doing everything I can for the team,” the ex-Liverpool striker added.

“Off the ball, I’m trying to close down defenders and goalkeepers.

“With the ball, it’s important for me to put it in the net and if I give myself the best chance of that then I know goals are going to come.

“But the most important thing is the win.

“If I come off the pitch and haven’t scored but we’ve got three points then I’m over the moon.

“That’s the way it is. We are all here to help each other and to win games together.”

Saints’ win at home on Saturday was their first St Mary’s victory of the season.

It came at a crucial time for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side as they are in the midst of a crucial run of games what is likely to shape their campaign.

Three points against fellow strugglers Norwich on Wednesday would leave them full of confidence for their trip to St James’ Park this weekend.

After that, they’ll welcome West Ham to the south coast, which is why Ings wants to make the ground a fortress in the coming weeks.

He added: “It’s [getting their first home win] massive.

“We want teams to come here and to not enjoy it. That’s the main aim for everyone’s home round.

“I felt we had that against Watford. That’s probably the loudest I’ve heard the fans here since I’ve been at the club.

“It was a proper home win and hopefully we can get some more under our belt.

“All I can do is thank them for being so passionate about the club and hopefully, together as one, we can go into the next game and try and win that one.”
