STUART Armstrong insisted that Saints will have not wasted any time celebrating their remarkable win at Chelsea – so they can focus on tomorrow’s visit of Crystal Palace.

The back-to-back away wins at Aston Villa and Chelsea have coincided with Armstrong’s return to Saints’ starting line-up.

He has been excellent in both matches but particularly at Chelsea, where he played a key role in both goals.

It was Armstrong and Cedric Soares’ pressing of Callum Hudson-Odoi that won back possession for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to put Michael Obafemi in for the opener.

And after flicking the ball over Michael Rudiger the Scotland international provided a delightful assist for Nathan Redmond to score the incredible second goal.

But attention soon turned to tomorrow's game against Crystal Palace.

Armstrong said: “The celebrations are a little bit subdued because we have got the game on Saturday.

“It’s a bit bittersweet because we get to enjoy today a little bit before focusing on Crystal Palace.”

Saints are 14th after their Boxing Day win.

“People didn’t expect us to come here and get a result like that but from the start of the game I thought we created some opportunities,” continued Armstrong.

“We had to sit back at times, especially in the first half where we were a little bit deeper than we would have liked, but Michael scored a great goal.

“I’m really happy for him that he was able to put it into the top corner and it gave the team a lift.

“We managed to see it out until half-time and then we started growing into the game and looked more comfortable.

“We had to soak up some pressure and then the second goal really killed it for them. Jack’s done really well with a little one-two, but I’m really happy for Redders to poke it home to seal a great win. “It’s great for him to get a goal and hopefully he can continue now.”

Only the Premier League’s top four clubs now have more away wins than Saints this season.

“We wanted to frustrate them because they were the home side,” continued Armstrong.

“To get the home fans having a little moan here and there helps us and it was on us to take our chances when they came.”

Armstrong was recalled in place of the injured Moussa Djenepo at Villa, having recovered from the hamstring injury he sustained in the 2-2 draw at Arsenal last month.

“It’s always a little bit frustrating when you aren’t playing but we have a competitive team in a competitive league,” he said. “It’s always great to help the team and play.”
