FORMER England striker Darren Bent has told Tottenham to sign Danny Ings as a replacement for Harry Kane.

Kane is currently facing a lengthy spell out of action after picking up a hamstring injury in his side’s defeat to Saints at St Mary’s on New Year’s Day.

And due to Ings’ scintillating form in front of goal, Bent has urged his former club to go all out and sign the 27-year-old in this month's transfer window.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Bent said: “If Spurs go and get Danny Ings, and he scored five or six before Kane returns, I don’t think Kane walks back into the team.

“I know Kane is one of the world’s best, but he would have to be patient.

“For me, that’s a perfect fit. If Daniel Levy was to be serious and go and get Ings, it would be a great signing.

“He is not the guy that scores the fourth or fifth goal, he is the man that scores the first goal – the important one – when games are tight.

“It’s a no-brainer. Spurs should go and get Danny Ings.”

Ings has been Saints’ most important player this season and has already bagged 13 Premier League goals.

Nine of those have come in his last 10 top-flight matches, including the winner against Tottenham.

The 27-year-old's form has led to calls for Gareth Southgate to include him in the next England squad.

Only Jamie Vardy, who retired from international duty, has scored more than him this season.
