SAINTS boss Ralph Hasenhuttl revealed Kyle Walker-Peters won't make his debut against Liverpool on Saturday.

The defender has joined on loan from Tottenham until the end of the season and has already trained twice with the team.

However, Hasenhuttl doesn't want to throw him into the spotlight until he's up to date with Saints' philosophy.

He said: “He won’t be in the squad which is normal.

“I am happy he was here since yesterday and we had two sessions and one big meeting.

“It’s important for him to see how we play and how we want to play for him to know the automatism and principles in our game.

“It’s important for him to learn as quick as possible and he can’t play against Tottenham in the FA Cup.

“But then we have two good weeks to prepare for the Burnley game.”

Walker-Peters' arrival has coincided with Cedric's expected departure to Arsenal.

The Portuguese international has been given permission by Saints to travel to the Gunners today to complete his loan move.

It will see Saints pocket a £3.5m loan fee, with Arsenal also paying Cedric's wages.

This takes the total cost to £5m for a player whose contract will run out in the summer.

Explaining why he feels Walker-Peters is a solid replacement for Cedric, Hasenhuttl added: “He’s good for Southampton because he’s young, quick and technically good.

“I think his hard disk is has a lot of space to put something on, so I think he can learn a lot.

“He will come to us and give 100 per cent and the whole package is something we can develop and that is our goal.”
